An advanced civilization once existed on this planet. Now only ruins remain... and the spiders.

Mechanical creatures, spider-like in form, roam the ruins of a world whose builders are long gone. Their sizes range from that of a dog to that of a hill. Dogs are also a fair comparison for their intelligence and their behaviour, and when the settlers arrived, they immediately seemed overjoyed, rushing forward with all the enthusiasm of animals that have been waiting for company for a very long time.

Centuries of solitude, apparently, had done nothing to diminish their capacity for affection.

What happened to the ancient civilization? Was it a plague? Did they abandon the planet and their beloved mechanical companions for some obscure reason? Deciphering what remains of their language will require long and painstaking work. But first things first: the planet must be made into a home. For the settlers, and for their remarkable new friends.

"The largest of the spiders, the size of a small hill, simply sat beside the first landing craft and waited, patient as stone, its optical sensors glowing softly in the alien dark. It had been waiting for centuries. A few more hours were nothing."

Mac says about this album: "Like many people, I've often felt the desire and need to start all over somewhere else, somewhere nobody knows me, where I have no history and no obligations, where I can simply be the current version of my real self. This is therefore a recurring theme in my music, and one that fits perfectly into a science fiction story about people starting everything from scratch on another planet. I am terrified of spiders (there are some huge ones in my basement, genuine horror movie material) but at the same time I find them fascinating, and there are some varieties I even like, such as the bright green ones. I decided to invent a world where artificial, and therefore somewhat less terrifying, spiders become people's faithful companions. A way to exorcise my fear, I suppose."
