Star Trek is probably the most famous science fiction show in history. The quality of the various series this long saga is made of is not particularly consistent - or maybe it would be more correct to say that each series has different things to say. As far as I'm concerned - and I'm not the only one - the best, more profound series was Star Trek - The Next Generation (TNG, for the fans). This series was not so much about space travel and adventure as it was on humanity. In the many episodes of TNG you can find profound explorations of single human beings, the interaction of individuals, and societies. All that a person may have to deal with when facing themselves, or the people around them, or the society they live in, was there. Anybody with half a brain who's capable of going beyond the starships and the external aspects of this show will find enough stuff to think about for years. TNG helped me think about and understand so many aspects of life that I just must say "thank you" to Gene Roddenberry, to Captain Picard, to all his crew, to all the characters that passed by, and obviously to the incredible team of writers and anybody who contributed to making this series go so deep into humanity.
